Brooklyn High School Teacher Selected to 2027 Global Learning Fellowship

Brooklyn High School teacher Ching-Ling Huang was recently granted the distinct honor of being selected as a member of the NEA Foundation's 2027 Global Learning Fellowship. Ms. Huang was chosen from a national pool of applicants to represent Ohio and Brooklyn City Schools and will join a cohort of fellow educators from the around the country to participate in an immersive professional development program. Through the NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellowship, participants will engage in workshops, conferences, group mentoring, and discussions, along with related research and independent study, designed to help them incorporate global competency within classroom instruction. The program will culminate with a ten-day international field study in Peru during the summer of 2027, during which educators will study the country’s education system, culture, and history.

Arriving in the United States as a foreign student from Taiwan in 1995, Ms. Huang learned first-hand that exposure to diverse cultures can promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world. The cross-cultural learning experience prompted her to apply for the NEA Foundation’s Global Learning Fellowship. She hopes to apply the knowledge and experiences gained from the fellowship to create a classroom environment that helps students not only learn about distinct cultures, but become more thoughtful, open-minded global citizens.

Ms. Huang has been an educator for twenty years, including the past eighteen years in the Brooklyn City Schools. In 2009, she launched the district’s Mandarin Chinese course. From 2011-2012, Ms. Huang taught International Business at Polaris High School full time, before returning to Brooklyn High School in 2013, where she has since taught Mandarin Chinese and International Business courses. She appreciates the opportunity to work in the district and praises the welcoming and down-to-earth nature of Brooklyn. As a teacher, she is grateful for the chance to both learn from and share her knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with students, colleagues, and the greater community.
